IMUU — FEED (interactive media converted to video)
Reviewed by Lauren Levato Coyne
This video from the group IMUU is wonderfully silly and feels like what would happen if Candy Land met the Tron video game in all its iterations. A computer’s mouse has sprouted legs and is running around the web exploring its options. It runs through colorful hallways and vibrant rooms encountering vomiting emojis, viruses, and religious icons. It navigates moving hands, beams of light, and floating stairs. It’s got everything it could want in terms of entertainment or enlightenment and still it runs through the everything, searching. It might feel inspired by games but FEED doesn’t feel like one you can win. The piece does the heavy duty lifting of being both critical of the culture and celebrating it at the same time. You can laugh til you cry, or vice versa, it’s all the same in the end.
